Last years floral designs: inspiration

I came across these designs that I made last year, and I still love them. Infact I have inspired myself with the bold florals, I'd love to create some similar floral designs for my new scarf module.

I really love the colour palettes that I used too, I could be feauturing some of these colours in a future Spring/summer collection. I'd also love to be using some embroidery after seeing those french knots; they look great. It's wonderful to get inspiration from your own designs.

Plastisols and Vinyls

I love this screen print it's created using plastisols and vinyls from one of my hand draw designs, I also used this as one of my final prints as I love the colours on the teal fabric and the combination of lines with vinyls.

screen print experiments

This is a breakdown of the previous screen print, showing the layers and the developmet of foil added to the design. I am very happy with the colour combination used and feel that the design is improved even more when layers up on a big piece.

Screen prints

This is a screen print development created from mark making shapes and lines with in my drawings.
i have layered the design up into different sections so that they could be printed in different colours. I have then added foils and vinyls onto my design which I feel adds an extra dimension to the print, I'd love to create a final print much like this with the intention of making it into a cushion, I could also combine some knitting into this piece.

Using vinyls

I've been experimenting with using vinyls today. There was a slight mishap using the sheer fabric as my design got stuck to the paper underneath in the heat press. After heating it up again and allowing it to melt, I  was able to peel them apart. Look how fab it looks! I love the colours I have chosen and that little splash of gold.

Mixing Pantone colours

Today I mixed all of my Pantone colours whilst my screen has been drying. I love the colours and I can't wait to start printing.

Weaving

I got given a handmade mini weaving board, so working with threads and wools from my colour palette for my current module, I have began making a mini weave to use as a sample for my project. I can't wait until it's finished.

New knitting techniques

After not being confident with knitting for quite sometime, today I learnt a new stitch, one that I thought was going to be incredibly hard, but amazingly I love it and find it easier that plain knitting.
This stitch is called the loop stitch, and I love the effect it gives with the wool i have chosen; it's so textured. Plus I'm also finding it easier to knit with my new wooden needles.

Re-creating designs with tape

To develop some of my designs I've used electric to tape to highlight some interesting areas with in my drawings. I love the effect it makes, really abstract! Now to screen print it..

Embroidery

I've been interpreting some of my floral photography with some embroidery. Working on felt with threads in my colour palette I've tried being quite abstract. using couching and french knots I think I've created some great texture here, it's nice to do some embroidery again

Putting my colour palette to use

So I've chosen my colour palette: mint green and peaches. So I decided to get drawing with some pro-markers that I had in those colours, I tried to be quite naive when using the pens to create quite rough designs. I like the mark making effect the square ends of the pro-markers have created with the floral study.

Heat transfer

Working on a floral study of a hydrangea I made a tonal watercolour of the flower, then creating an outline in transfer inks I laid them on top of eachother and put them in the heat press to create this effect. I really like it.

Using Promarkers

I have used promarkers to create this design. I love the naivety that the pens create as the ink spreads out, the bright colours also look great. some areas of this design could be picked out in the future as development to create a pattern.

Drawing from my photographs

Drawing a doorway i spotted in Tynemouth, I've used watercolour paints and fine liner pen to create this study. I love the colours and the different layers of wash I have used. This is definitely something i would like to develop

Beach hut designs

I've been focusing on beach huts whilst designing, using promarkers to create stripes on the huts and outlining with fineliner, I love these small studies I have created. Inspired by the beach huts I also made a small embroidery, which I really do love, although it took me so long to make.

"Scribble designs"

So to loosen up with my drawings I tried some scribble type drawings with a biro pen. I drew from some of my own photography, focusing on doorways using marking making and some continuous line with the biro. It was nice to use this way of drawing rather than having to perfect shading and tone, I could use a view finder later to draw from some areas, or even to create texture with other methods.

Stick and Ink

This is another technique I have used to loosen up my drawing. replicating a line drawing I've already done, i used a stick with some ink to draw this design out. It has a really rough and loose texture which I quite like. there are some darker areas as you can't really control the line thickness easily.

Line drawings

From some of my Photography I have drawn some areas using a fine liner. I really like the ornate window I have drawn, I'd like to develop this further. Line drawings can be so relaxing as you aren't pressured to get tonal areas accurate.
